(MoneyNewsWire.Net, April 05, 2015 ) Kingwood, TX -- The Northeast Houston area is known for the number and variety of churches in the area. The active Christian community of the Kingwood and Humble areas has scheduled a multitude of services for Holy Week and Easter.
The Holy Week festivities began with Palm Sunday services held by churches throughout the area. The observances pick up again on Wednesday with Stations of the Cross hosted by the North campus of Second Baptist Church as well as a mass for the anointing of the sick at St. Martha Catholic Church and Wednesday evening services at St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church, The Luke Missionary Baptist Church and Woodridge Baptist Church.
Maundy Thursday services will be held at Atascocita Community Church, Atascocita United Methodist Church, Christ the King Lutheran Church, First Presbyterian Church of Kingwood, Good Shepherd Episcopal Church, Holy Comforter Lutheran Church, Kingwood United Methodist Church, St. Martha Catholic Church, and St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church. Maundy Thursday is observed the Thursday before Easter Sunday in commemoration of the day Jesus celebrated the Passover meal with his disciples, also known as the Last Supper.
A number of Good Friday services will be held, some at noon, others in the evening, including Way of the Cross services, prayer vigils at several different churches as well as a concert presentation of "The Seven Last Words of Christ" at the First Presbyterian Church of Kingwood.
Prayer vigils will be held at several churches on Saturday and observance of Resurrection Sunday will begin with sunrise services at Town Center Park in Kingwood TX, Atascocita United Methodist Church, Fellowship of the Woodlands - Atascocita, Good Shepherd Episcopal Church, and Lamb of God Lutheran Church. Several churches, such as Crosby Church, will hold Easter egg hunts for the children preceding or following the service.
