Though the company was able to identify the breach in time, the company's executives did acknowledge that a few orders were dispatched which had to be recalled after which the system was halted. The company originally said that a stricter verification protocol would be put in place, in addition to manual identification verification prior to any debit card or PayPal payment being accepted. The company has done this despite the fact that PayPal already implements some of the strictest security checks in the industry.
Each year dozens of businesses in almost every industry report buyers using often stolen credentials. Many times companies have to bear the loss since physical items have already been dispatched. Some buyers will also resort to chargebacks after an item has already been received. Scams like these can be hard to avoid online but Stunning Gadgets has taken some time to ramp up the buying and verification system to reduce the instance of stolen credentials being used. That said there are still many attempts made by crooks, especially those crooks that do not reside in the same country as the company. So, Stunning Gadgets obviously took the right steps by banning purchases via debit card and PayPal by people outside the US. There are still many countries from where the company does not receive orders under any circumstance.
