(MoneyNewsWire.Net, May 03, 2015 ) Dublin, Ireland -- A new blog was posted today about an how an insurance worker secured a raise by averting fraud having spotted a statue of Saint Joseph buried in a garden.
Small statues of Saint Joseph are used to try to sell houses and as per tradition the statue should be buried upside down in the garden of the house to be sold.
An observant insurance worker spotted something odd in the periphery of photos taken from the scene of a devastating house fire. The small anomaly had been overlooked by co-workers but immediately raised suspicion for one Illinois based insurance worker.
'Straight away I just knew it was not right. It looked like a small piece of plastic that a child or dog might have left behind. I zoomed in on the image and realised that it was a statue of Saint Joseph' commented this young insurance agent.
'I had done some time in real estate and knew that some people use the statue to try to sell their houses. This just did not tally with the story of the home owner who was devastated by the fire'.
'Clearly the statue alone was not enough to clinch the case but I was able to convince my colleagues of my suspicions and we began to handle the case differently'
Some weeks later the forensic data confirmed that the house fire had been started deliberately. It emerged that the house owner was desperate to sell the house but could not put the house on the property market in case his gambling colleagues found out. He had tried to sell the house quietly with the help of the statue with the aim of disappearing once he sale had been concluded.
With increasing pressures from his gambling colleagues he changed plan and set fire to the house. He simply forgot to unearth the statue and never suspected that it would be noticed.
